Cycling

On the road on two wheels

Cycling is certainly one of the most beautiful, varied and healthy sports that can be practiced well into old age. That's why we put a lot of effort into providing you with our rental bikes for your tours. Whether you want to take a leisurely stroll around Lake Wörthersee on a city bike or head off-road on one of our mountain bikes, you will always find the right bike in our bike shed.

Carinthia's largest river is symbolized by a cycle path that crosses the country from west to east. The Drau Cycle Path R1 stretches 366 km from the source of the Drau in Toblach in South Tyrol to Maribor in Slovenia. Of course, you can enjoy this enormous route in individual stages, which are ideal for cycling with the whole family due to the small differences in altitude. Our hotel is the ideal starting point, as you will find the connection to the Drau cycle path in nearby Rosegg.

Large number of well-developed cycle paths

But not only this "flagship" for all cycling enthusiasts, but also a multitude of well-developed cycle paths offer a wide variety of tours: the northern shore of Lake Wörthersee opens up unexpected views of the beautiful villas of Lake Wörthersee architecture and the tranquil beauty of the lake. If you want to save your strength, simply take the steamer back to Velden after a refreshment stop in Klagenfurt. Families also like to take the route through the moorland of the 4-lake Keutschach valley.

Those who prefer hilly, natural terrain will also get their money's worth: the new cycling and hiking maps, which you can obtain from us, give you a precise overview of the most beautiful cycling routes on our doorstep. Whether you prefer to get on a down-to-earth MTB and test your endurance in Carinthia's alpine landscape or give it your all on a racing bike, you've come to the right place!

Tour suggestions

Forstsee

Just the right tour for the more sporty and "bikers with lots of gears" as well as a little more stamina, as you need a bit of strength to get to Kerschdorf. However, the beautiful location of the Forstsee will make you forget all your exertions. After a - probably - somewhat longer break, the route then descends again and we "roll" comfortably along the northern shore of Lake Wörthersee back to Pörtschach.

Around the Kathreinkogel

On this tour, you can follow in the footsteps of the Romans. After reaching the Latschach plain and cycling along the Drau, you have a wonderful view of the Karawanken, St. Jakob and St. Egyden. In St. Egyden, you can leave your bikes at the "Kreuzwirt" inn and hike up the Kathreinkogel. You can then return to Velden via Schiefling or take another "mountain stage" and ride from Gasthof Kreuzwirt to Penken to visit the small but beautiful natural gem of Penkensee lake, before returning to Pörtschach from Velden.

Carolingian cycle route

A cycle tour that is both scenically and historically particularly attractive. This tour takes you from Pörtschach to Moosburg, where you leave the main road again at the golf course and cycle along traffic-free paths along the edge of the forest to Nasweg. On the way to Kl. St. Veit, the view of the magnificent landscape with Lake Tigring and the Karawanken mountains opens up again and again. After Tigring Castle, you will come across the first witnesses of the Carolingian period, which invite you to visit and linger along the road. In Moosburg, you should definitely visit the museum and the castle. Passing the golf course, the route continues via Pörtschach and Sekull onto the country road to St. Martin. A fast ride takes you to Töschling and thus back to Lake Wörthersee and then on to Pörtschach.
